SXC x NATALIE WONG Short Documentary

It's finally here! After my amazing journey to Johannesburg and filming in major landmarks around the city, the short documentary showcasing my new work and the inspiration behind it is here!

We shot around 1TB of footage in total! Which is crazy when I think about it. But the experience was so much fun and an absolute dream come true for an artist.

Thanks to Man of Actions Concepts for filming this and to Sneaker Exchange for the collaboration!

The 7 min documentary was released on South African Youth Day (16 June 2017). Youth day commemorates a protest that resulted in a wave of protests across the country known as the Soweto uprising of 1976.

It came in response to multiple issues with the Bantu Education Act and the government edict in 1974 that Afrikaans be used as medium of instruction for certain subjects in black schools. The iconic picture of Hector Pieterson, a black schoolchild shot by the police, brought home to many people within and outside of South Africa the effect of the struggle during the Apartheid government's reign.
